The Rules
GAME DETAILS
Journey To The End Of The Night is a chase game played across an entire city. It is not unlike a foot race mixed with a scavenger hunt and a game of tag. The course will be approximately 6.5 miles, as the crow flies, and may take 2 to 5 hours to complete (accounting for interference). The finish line will be within a 5-10 minute walk of a BART station.
Players will congregate at the amphitheater in Mosswood Park, where a mediator will take down their name.
Each player will receive:
- a green ribbon, to wear while being chased
- an orange ribbon, to wear if caught
- a manifest sheet, to be signed at each checkpoint
- a map of the designated checkpoints
- words of encouragement
Agents will be in disguise at the six checkpoints around the city, waiting to sign players’ manifests as they arrive. At 7PM, a mediator will give a verbal description of the Agents at the first checkpoint, and so the game begins.
Stationed around the city will be Chasers, all wearing ribbons, whose goal will be to catch players. If a Chaser successfully tags a player, they must hand over their green ribbon and tie on their orange ribbon. At this point, the player will become a Chaser, and endeavor to catch other players.
Awards, light refreshments, and stories will be presented at the finish line. The finish line location will be near the Gazebo at Lake Merritt, a short walk from the 19th St. BART station.
PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS
Your goal is to reach the final checkpoint first with a complete manifest and without being caught by Chasers. You may walk, run, or take the train.
At each checkpoint you must find an Agent to sign your manifest. These Agents will instruct you on how to identify the Agent at the next checkpoint.
If you are caught (tagged), remove your green ribbon and give it to the Chaser who got you. Put on yourorange ribbon. Your goal now is to catch other players.
